Ia Orana, my darlings!

OMG, I feel super excited to finally start sharing our experiences from French Polynesia with you! From the moment we stepped our foot there, we absolutely fell in love with this place. It is (really) heaven on Earth! I mean, when you arrive at Faaa airport in Tahiti, they welcome you with a traditional Polynesian dance. So that adds an extra touch of happiness to your trip! Anyways, now sit back and enjoy our Polynesian journey! First stop, Teahupo’o!

I have to share our little airport adventure and you’re free to judge! When we booked Tahiti, we were arriving at this little paradise around midnight, and we had a ride booked for Teahupo’o, really early in the morning. So I thought, “why book a hotel for like five hours?”. We could stay at the airport for a few hours, right? We’ve done it before between layovers in New Zealand, Qatar and Dubai. Oh, goodness how wrong was I!

Faaa airport is incredibly small. So small that it shuts done at night after their last flight. It shuts its doors and the staff goes home! Oh, and both of our phones lost signal as soon as we arrived! We ended up “sleeping” on a bench outside the airport in a foreign country in the dark. Thank goodness, a man was there with his two daughters so we ended up keeping each other company and felt safe. Well, not safe but safer! Fortunately, after what felt like a day, the sun came out, we were not scared anymore and our driver was there to take us to the gorgeous village of Teahupo’o. A super sweet little area full of greenery, friendly people and a gorgeous black beach.

Teahupo’o

When we arrived at this beautiful place, we left our things at the lodge we were staying and headed out to explore the village. We were looking forward to visiting the beach so that was what we did first. I was so excited to see a black beach for the first time in my life. It is actually on my bucket list so you can imagine my excitement. But do you know what Teahupo’o is actually world-famous for? This village is known for its huge, heavy, deadly waves! They sometimes reach 7 meters! Can you believe that? Those waves crash on a coral reef so you can’t actually see them from the shore but you should totally google “Teahupo’o” and see what I’m talking about! Those waves are insane!

Anyway, I’ll end my writing part of the post here and let you enjoy the photos of this beautiful village. Oh, I have to mention that when you scroll through our photos below you’ll see the most magical place we’ve ever seen. A place we found by accident. We found Fairyland! Palm trees, a river and two ducks that were actually posing with me when my hubby was taking our photos :)
