Taharuu Beach

In our previous blog post, I mentioned that one of my favourite things in Teahupoo was its black beach. Well, Tahiti has many of these black sand beaches and in this post, I will share photos and memories from our favourite one. Taharru Beach in Papara. Personally, my favourite beach in the whole world.

To visit Taharuu Beach, we woke up super early as it was an hour and a half away from where we were staying in Teahupo’o. We had already seen a black beach in Tahiti, so we kind of knew what to expect. Boy, were we surprised! This beach was so clean and the sand was so black and powder-soft we couldn’t believe our eyes. Also, because the sand had that glorious black colour, the crashing waves looked like foam. The contrast of those colours looked amazing. We had never seen anything like it before. I’ve seen this place on Instagram before, but to be honest I thought it was edited. Because you don’t really know what’s real on Instagram these days. Well, no one was exaggerating about this beach. Really hard to take a bad shot at this place.

So, we took a few photos and when we finished, I wanted to get in the water because I was full of sand. What you might not know, is that Taharuu beach is famous for its gorgeous waves. Not dangerous waves like the ones in Teahupoo, but perfect ones for surfing. Well, I underestimated their strenth! I was standing in the water facing the shore and a wave actually kneed me! I fell in the water butt first!! The worst part was that my husband was talking to our driver and the driver saw what happened to me and told Louis “your wife fell in the water”. It was so embarrassing! My husband couldn’t hold his tears from laughter. Now we talk about this and laugh but that moment I wanted to die!
